UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA OFFICIAL RESUMPTION

THE PRESIDENCY
STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT, UNEC
16-05-15
OFFICIAL WELCOME ADDRESS
Beloved lions and lionesses,
I celebrate with us this day on our well deserved victory over the administration as regards resumption. I want to thank us all for the patience we exercised during this break, for the the constant calls you put through to confirm situations and moreover for believing in this government. I appreciate my fellow comrades of both campuses that stood their grounds in dodgedness and comradeship to see that school opens this week.
In the meeting(btw the school and SUG) the VC pointed out that the school have been paying through her nose to give the university community light. In his speech it was observed that he wasn't really convinced about resumption pointing out that the university of Ibadan(UI) that was shut down for two (2) weeks (from 26th may) following power failure and energy issues hasn't still resumed up till now. He also pointed out that schools that didn't shut down were schools not concerned with providing accommodation for her students with the likes of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He explicitly explained the challenges faced by the school administration and the nation currently which was quite understood.
Speaking on behalf of the post graduate students, Mr. Joseph the clerk of the PG SUG stated categorically that it is imperative we resume school activities soon. Following suit, Comr. Nebo Joy the Ag. SUG president of UNN spoke in favour of the motion. It was at this point that Comr. Ilogebe Chidi, the SUG President of UNEC stood up to crown the motion. He pointed out that the necessity of resuming immediately can not be overemphasized. He made it known to the VC that there are law students in UNEC that stand chances of missing out on their law school programs should the break be further extended. He pleaded with the administration to consider the time students spend at home doing nothing stating that any time wasted can't be recalled.
The Director Works Services lucidly stated that the light problem has improved but that EEDC has not promised constant supply of power to the school community because they (EEDC) have not started receiving enough generated power.
There and then the VC made a few comments and said that he has heard our pleas and gave an order that academic activities should resume immediately. There was so much joy in the VC's conference room as all present clapped and thanked the VC. He pleaded with students to bear with the school as the national power crisis is being tackled head- on especially students in Kenneth dike hostel that have some electrical works going on in their hostel.
The union went ahead(behind camera) to plead that students shouldn't pay reparations for damaged property and also that the academic calendar be extended by 2weeks to enable students prepare well for exams. Meanwhile, a panel has been set to look into the direct and remote causes of the protest to avoid future occurrence of such.
In a bid to further avert such problem, the SUG has resorted to information dissemination via online media(group whatsapp, Facebook pages and blogspots). The SUG still admonishes students to always put calls through to these numbers whenever they are distressed: 07031641318(President), 08167964708(DOW), 08035396664(PRO)
Finally, we are in the business of serving you better, and we believe strongly in the mantra; "unity is strength, division is weakness", for together we CAN. On this note, we wish all returning Lions and Lionesses journey mercies back to the DEN. Let us not be in a hurry to come back, take your time and pack your
belongings carefully. The good Lord shall see us all through and accident shall never be our portion in Jesus name, Amen.
Aluta continua, Victoria ascerta!
Comr. Ilogebe Chidi HRH
Lion 001, UNEC.
