Okonjo-Iweala spent $2.1bn without approval... FG

The National Economic Council, chaired by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday accused former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, of spending $2.1bn from the Excess Crude Account without authorisation.

 

“We looked at the numbers for the Excess Crude Account. The last time the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, reported to the council, and it is in the minutes, she reported by November 2014 that we had $4.1 bn.

In the spirit of a new and blessed week, we bring you greetings. We want to thank God for a very wonderful weekend and also thank our amiable Vice-chancellor, Prof. Chukwuma Ozumba for his efforts so far channeled towards improving students welfare. This is very evident in the constant power supply we have been receiving since after our break and also, the water project that was completed over the weekend. We are much delighted and very grateful with this development. The VC has shown responsiveness towards matters that primarily concern students welfarism, and we are proud of him. Ndi Igbo siri na " eto dike na nke omere, ome òzó." We encourage him to do more.
For those of us that are not aware, the most basic needs of students this government promised have been provided. These needs include; constant power supply, availability of clean water, students I.D cards, security, e.t.c. In one of our press releases we enjoined students not to be antsy as all hands were being placed on deck to ensure improved welfarism.
Talking about the water project, the works department is through with the pipe fixing and water has started running evidently. Now, it should be on record that any day water does not run, we should all know that the problem is not internal(from school) rather it is from the Enugu state water corporation. We have been given the tickets to enjoy perpetual supply of water till we graduate, courtesy of the VC, prof Ozumba and the SUG 2014/2015 led by Comr. Ilogebe.
For those of us that haven't gotten the news of the bio-data collection for our ID card production, please, we will state once more; go to ICT beside Access bank PLC and submit your details.

The name of Messi saves kidnapped Argentine in Nigeria

The agricultural engineer was abducted on a deserted road in Kontagora last week but has now regained his freedom after spending three days in captivity

An Argentine man who was kidnapped last week in Kontagora, northern Nigeria, has spoken about how chanting the name of his famous compatriot Lionel Messi helped him during the travail.
Santiago Lopez Menendez, 28, an agronomist and staff of Flour Mills of Nigeria, worked on two farms in the Kontagora area but was kidnapped on June 24 by men riding on motorcycles as he traveled on a lonely road in the town of Machagu between Mokwa and Kontagora.
As police swung into action to rescue him, the man also found common ground with his abductors who thought he was North American but could not communicate with him in the local Hausa language.
The mention of ‘Messi, Messi, Messi’ was able to establish him as an Argentine and it gave his frustrated kidnappers clue before a ransom was finally paid and he was released three days later.
"Tell them to thank Messi, his name is what saved me," Menendez told his brother according to Clarin.
He is now in the Argentine Embassy in Abuja with his girlfriend Alejandra Perkins and his brother Jorge and will return to his country.

Tech: Good news! Google to Bring Free Wi-Fi to the World

Google is rolling out free wifi in New York as part of a trial the company hopes will eventually span across the whole of the world.

The internet giant has even gone as far as to set up a company specifically dedicated to the task, called Sidewalk Labs.

How will they do this you ask – through turning 10,000 of the big apple’s old phone booths into ad-supported ‘Wi-Fi pylons’.

These converted booths are also intended to provide cell-phone charging, free domestic phone calls and a touch screen information hub about the city and transit directions.

According to Bloomberg News, these ‘pylons’ will be rolled out across New York this autumn.

Radio Biafra: Is Nigeria headed for a split?

A radio station named Radio Biafra operating from an unknown location in Rivers State has hit the airwaves.

According to Daily Post, the station can be heard on 88.0 FM dial.

The station is said to have just one radio personality named “Director,” and he often refers to listeners as “the indigenous people of Biafra.”

Radio Biafra And Nnamdi Kanu: A Threat to Nigeria’s Stability

I was on a drive back from Aba yesterday with my Mum when the conversation we were having led to the mention of this Radio Biafra which is currently airing on FM 102.1 in most South South and South Eastern states. Last time I heard of this Radio Biafra, it was an Internet radio station that didn’t have that much of a following to warrant any real concerns, however I was shocked to find out that they were now a terrestrial radio station with a Frequency Modular bandwidth. Anyways, I tuned in out of curiosity to find out what they were all about and that was when the hair on the back of my neck stood. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

For the entire period I was tuned into the station, it was back to back tirades against the current Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, raw undiluted anti-Semitic messages targeted mostly at the Yorubas, calls for the destruction of all Deeperlife Church posters, billboards and the burning and destruction of all Deeperlife churches in Aba and all Igbo Land, the stopping of any Deeperlife crusade from holding in Aba, calls for the Igbos to arm themselves pending when he (Nnamdi Kanu who was being referred to as director) would give the clarion call for the war to commence, calls for Igbos and the supporters of the Biafran cause to join their local chapter and contribute money to him (Nnamdi) to purchase arms to prosecute a war against the Government of Nigeria. The Nnamdi character freely spewed hate for Yorubas and Hausas, referred to Nigeria as a Zoo that they would destroy, e.t.c

At first, I just felt that this was a case of a Lunatic who seems to have found his way into a radio station, but my fears didn’t rise until I heard the calls coming into the station from his growing followers. One of such callers actually said Hello Director, If Kumuyi steps into Aba, I WILL KILL HIM”. Another caller said he was a technician of sorts and was willing to offer his services to help build a bomb to destroy Nigeria and the Nnamdi character took his number and promised to get in touch with him. The calls kept coming in and it was just caller after caller pledging support for the cause of this deranged man. It didn’t matter that the Nnamdi Character sounded rude, arrogant and full of himself and obviously had a thirst for power, it didn’t matter that he was insulting and disrespecting most of the callers who dialed in, more people kept calling.

Now my reason for starting this thread is to use this medium to bring the attention of the Government to the birth of a New Terrorist group in the South East.. I couldn’t help but remember that this was exactly how the Boko Haram menace started, First it was just an Islamic preacher who was also doing Charity works and feeding his followers, then it grew into a militia that has cause the death of over 15,000 Nigerians and counting. Please those with the right connect should inform our security agencies. Whilst listening, most of the callers were reading out their phone numbers over the air and I was wondering if someone is noting down these numbers and placing taps on them and placing the owners on the terrorist watch list.

I would be honest and say that this Biafra Radio broadcast really troubled me. One of our workers who is a listener and was a follower only changed his views after I managed to explain to him the implications of what this Nnamdi Character was soliciting. The Nnamdi fellow is not hard to catch, below is a picture of him I pulled off of the Internet. And it seems he freely enters and leaves Nigeria as he pleases.
I really hope someone in a position of authority hears this message and acts on it fast before things get to the point where we now have to start doing damage control at which point many innocent lives would have been lost. Let’s use the Lessons learnt from the Boko Haram case and the arrest and murder of Mohammed Yussuf to find a way of finding, arresting and shutting down this Terrorist Group. Today we may think it’s just a radio broadcast, but if half the callers I heard were not just blowing hot. Air, then we must take this threat to National peace seriously.

The app, called Binder, available now on iOS and Android, appears to be loosely based on Tinder — it helps automate breakups by allowing you to end a relationship with just one swipe to the right.

In order to take advantage of Binder's relationship-ending service, simply choose the gender of your (soon to be ex) significant other, add in their name and phone number, choose from a list of hilariously brutal reasons (like, "our relationship is as patchy as your beard"), swipe right and the app takes care of the rest.

Those on the receiving end are treated to an equally harsh breakup text message and phone call, relaying the sad news in the bluntest way possible, though the phone calls are easily the most heartless.

ISIS releases another Shocking Video

'Titanic' And 'Braveheart Composer "James Horner" Dies In Plane Crash

James Horner, the consummate film composer known for his heart-tugging scores for Field of Dreams, Braveheart and Titanic, for which he won two Academy Awards, died Monday in a plane crash near Santa Barbara. He was 61.

His death was confirmed by Sylvia Patrycja, who is identified on Horner's film music page as his assistant. 

"We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent," Patrycja wrote on Facebook on Monday. "He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road."

Horner was piloting the small aircraft when it crashed into a remote area about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara, officials said. An earlier report noted that the plane, which was registered to the composer, had gone down, but the pilot had not been identified.

For his work on the 1997 best picture winner Titanic, directed by James Cameron, Horner captured the Oscar for original dramatic score, and he nabbed another Academy Award for original song (shared with lyricist Will Jennings) for "My Heart Will Go On," performed by Celine Dion.

"My job - and it's something I discuss with Jim all the time - is to make sure at every turn of the film it's something the audience can feel with their heart," Horner said in a 2009 interview with the Los Angeles Times. "When we lose a character, when somebody wins, when somebody loses, when someone disappears - at all times I'm keeping track, constantly, of what the heart is supposed to be feeling. That is my primary role."

His score for Titanic sold a whopping 27 million copies worldwide.

His fruitful partnership with Cameron also netted him Oscar noms for original score for the blockbusters Aliens (1986) and Avatar (2009). The pair reportedly were also at work on Avatar sequels.

The Los Angeles native earned 10 Oscar noms in all, also being recognized for his work on two other best picture winners: Braveheart (1995) and A Beautiful Mind (2001). He also received noms for An American Tail (1986), Field of Dreams (1989), Apollo 13 (1995) and House of Sand and Fog (2003).

Always busy, Horner has three films coming out soon: Southpaw, the boxing drama that stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rachel McAdams and is due in theaters in July; Jean-Jacques Annaud's Wolf Totem, out in September; and The 33, a drama based on the 2010 mining disaster in Chile that's set for November.

His lengthy film résumé includes The Lady in Red (1979), Wolfen (1981), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1983), Red Heat (1988), Glory (1989), The Rocketeer (1991), Patriot Games (1992), Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993), Jumanji (1995), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), Troy (2004) and The Amazing Spider-Man (2012).

His father was two-time Oscar-winning art director/set designer Harry Horner (The Heiress, The Hustler).

Horner spoke about the state of his career in a December interview with David Hocquet.

"I'm much choosier," he said.' "I don't want to be doing these movies that now 85 or 90 composers want, as opposed to six. And now all these movies, action movies. I don't get offered all the movies obviously, but I see a lot of them and I do get asked to do a lot of them, and I just know they're not asking me to do something that I can do something original, they're asking me to do a formula and I'm too rebellious."

Former White House executive chef Walter Scheib has been missing for more than a week after hiking a mountain trail alone in Taos, New Mexico.

Scheib, who served under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, has been absent since June 13 when he left to go for a hike and was later reported missing by a family member.
On Thursday, investigators tracked Scheib's cell phone signal to a mountain in Taos, according to a press release from the New Mexico State Department of Public Safety.

Investigators have been searching the area but the treacherous terrain and deep canyons have been interfering with their efforts, according to the release.
Scheib had recently moved to the area, according to Sergeant Elizabeth Armijo, a New Mexico State Police public information officer.

Scheib's car was discovered by investigators Tuesday in a parking lot at the Yerba Canyon Trailhead.
Scheib served as White House executive chef from 1994 to 2005. Scheib was personally hired by then-first lady Hillary Clinton, according to Scheib's official website.

Yes, the school authority introduced an impromptu mid-semester break. Yes our very own dear colleague lost her life and we sadly mourn and with heavy eyes and tears flowing out of our eyes like rivers into seas. We cant help but pray God grants her soul eternal rest.
She (Sylvia) was a very vibrant  300 level student of Veterinary Medicine and the callousness of the bad state of roads in Nigeria stole her away from us. What a loss!

A Nigerian student has broken a 30-year-old maths equation and achieved the highest grades at a university in Japan for 50 years.
Ufot Ekong, who studied at Tokai University in Tokyo, achieved a first class degree in electrical engineering and scored the best marks at the university since 1965, the Flotilla Magazine reported.He began his success early at the university, solving a 30-year-old maths equation in his first semester.Throughout his university career Mr Ekong has won six awards for academic excellence. The brilliant mathematician worked two jobs alongside his studies to pay his way as a student.Mr Ekong also speaks English, French,Japanese and Yoruba and won a Japanese language award for foreigners. He is currently working for Nissan and already has two patents for electronic car design to his name.Tokai University is a prestigious private university based in the Japanese capital, which was founded in 1924. It is focused on the sciences and technology and roughly 60 per cent of all students are enrolled in these schools.
