OXFORD UNIVERSITY GETS FEMALE VC AFTER 8 CENTURIES

For the first time in 800 years, a woman is about to be appointed as VC of Oxford University.

The University of Oxford is to appoint its first female vice-chancellor since its records began nearly 800 years ago, after Prof Louise Richardson was nominated for the university’s most senior office.

Richardson, currently the principal and vice-chancellor of St Andrews University, is an expert on the growth of terrorist movements. She held a succession of high-profile positions at Harvard until she was appointed to lead St Andrews in 2009.

Students and staff hailed the nomination as a momentous event in Oxford’s history. Richardson, 56, told the Guardian she hoped her nomination would inspire current and potential female undergraduates. (UK Guardian)

Democracy Day statement by National leader Bola Tinubu

May 29, 2015, shall be recorded in our history as the moment when democracy finally was allowed to participate in Democracy Day. The reason for this is the legion of average Nigerians who voted to make this happen. Should any of you wish to see a true hero of democracy, don’t fret. Just look in the nearest mirror.

The celebrations prior to this were false showings; they were the commemoration of wrong.

The path we have taken to come to this august moment has not been one of easy victory or swift progress. Instead, it has been a path hewed by the triumph of resilience over broken promises and fraudulent avowals of representative governance. Reaching this fine moment has been a story told in the cadence of the victory of common good over arrogant power. The voice of the solitary poor man, no one hears. But the votes of the poor became a potent army capable of toppling the very citadel of high privilege in order to bring forth national awakening no less historic and important than the very birth of this nation. On this day,

we shall witness the inauguration of Muhammadu Buhari, a great, honorable and dedicated public servant as our president. This is indeed an inspiring moment, a turning point in our national direction, and the reclamation of our best destiny.

We shall celebrate this achievement but not in mindless, care-free fashion. The road ahead is still choked with the debris of problems left too long unattended.

We are well aware of the challenges pitted against our wellbeing. Insecurity, economic decline and corruption, we must fight and fight as if we are going to war not a carnival.

Most of all, we must fight the temptation of hopelessness, the sense that little good will come out of even the greatest efforts.

This is where I want to thank and commend all those who voted in the past election.

It is you who turned this day into the true celebration of true democracy it was intended to be.

With no guarantee save your faith and armed solely with the hope and promise of a better tomorrow through better governance, you fought the mounting tide of power and money. That tide tried to induce you to sell your democratic rights and your chance for a greater future on the cheap.  In the eyes of those who were self-exalted, you had been debased and brought low by visible circumstance of poverty and lack.  You seemed to them ripe for purchase. Yet, inside, you retained a greatness of character and a loyalty to the democratic ideal incomprehensible to those who believed that everything can be purchased. You showed them that your self-definition as human beings and as Nigerians was not for sale or tender. As a result, he who had been given so much, so easily by so many was humbled. You who have been ridiculed, reduced and written off were lifted up. The will of the people hath reclaimed its sovereignty. This has been a blossoming of justice and the illumination of the power of human decency.  So often, Nigeria has been portrayed negatively before the world. Not this time. The world is proud of what you have done and how you have advanced the cause of fairness and right. What you have done has lent solace to those still struggling to establish democracy and responsive governance in their homelands. They now see Nigeria as an inspiring example. They seek to be like you, to travel the road you just trod. Today, the old Nigeria is no longer in chains as we move into a new era and take hold of our new selves. From President Buhari to the state governors inaugurated this day, I wish them well and pray they govern in an open, democratic way that assures your optimal wellbeing. I ask that you, the people, maintain your diligence and help guide those you have just elected. The issues that confront us are deep and complex. They are not susceptible to facile solution or inattention.  Wise and sound policy is within our capacity. But, we must have the will to accomplish it. If both the governed and government work in league, there is nothing our beloved nation cannot overcome. Let it be said that on this day, the nation consecrate itself to the ideal that governance is the sacred instrument of the people and never again shall it be the exclusive recreation of a select few. No longer shall Democracy day be a shallow ritual. Henceforth, it is a living truth.

Confusion in University Of Nigeria Enugu campus...By Geo Angel of Gossip Lions

The whole campus was thrown into serious confusion yesterday Wednesday.

I saw people running, without an idea what was happening so joined them just for safety, in case there is trouble.

As soon as we got to maunwa bus stop, I saw people running towards us and here it became really scary. I didn't know if I should continue running or run backwards. To make it worse, I saw people crying and wailing. As I paused to take a critical examination at what was really happening, I saw a certain young man lying flat on the road, like he had fainted and other guys were pouring sachet water at him .As I stepped further, behold............ the guy was laughing, screaming, I made it! I made it!! I made it!!! I thought this brother had gone mad or something. But a closer look reminded me that the result of the second MBBS examination might have just been pasted

The second MBBS examination is taken every year by Dentistry and Medicine students and it qualifies them for admission into the clinical class.
There was mixed feelings in the air. Delight and despair. Wailing and screams (or tears) for joy.

I cried when I heard a good friend of mine had been withdrawn because he failed. Oh! "No be small thing o". Others cried for the misfortunes of their friends as well. "As in eh ". His hopes of being an Oral and Maxilla-facial surgeon has just been dashed. If he had a dream, guess he has to go to sleep again,... and dream again. My heart quivered. My defenses were gone. I have real love for this brother so i busted into tears, and it rolled down my face inexorably like rivers into oceans! . First time I will cry after twenty three(23) years. Last time I was a suckling. This brother of mine read night and day, yet he failed. He was the best in his secondary school. But llife goes on... He might become the next Prof Soludo though. I heard the former central bank governor failed out from this same medical school and then went on to study economics. I did not cry all through anyway. Another very good friend of mine made distinction in Anatomy and biochemisty! Hahaha

At the end of the day Kirsh and Grills sold out! Hahaha

And finally, whether you pass or you fail, Na God win!!!

Okonjo-Iweala in real trouble.. As Oshiomhole says Minister destroyed Nigerian economy

The Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has lambasted outgoing finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, over her claims that states received N2.92 trillion excess crude money between 2011 and 2014 with little to show, the latest in a series of tit-for-tat between governors and the minister over allegations of mismanagement of oil revenues.

Mr. Oshiomhole accused the minister of gross mismanagement of the Nigerian economy, saying she was merely feeding Nigerians with half-truths in the last four years.

Mr. Oshiomhole said the minister has herself to blame as she ran the Excess Crude Account as a “one-man show”.

The governor said Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala’s recent outcry against oil marketers over falsification of fuel subsidy claims may have been out of in fear about the incoming President, Muhammadu Buhari.

“It is quite intriguing that with barely few days left in office, she has suddenly woken up from her slumber to realize that oil marketers have all along been falsifying subsidy claims and

Fuel crisis Funke Akindele rides bicycle to church

Nollywood star actress, Funke Akindele rode a bicycle to church on Sunday due to the fuel crisis in the country. This is according to her post on the social media.

Nigeria has been brought to a virtual standstill by fuel shortages, caused by a row between the outgoing government and importers, as well as strikes by petrol tanker drivers and oil and gas workers.
Despite being Africa’s biggest oil producer, petroleum products have to be imported to Nigeria because of a lack of functioning domestic refineries.
The government keeps the price at the pumps below the market rate for consumers and pays the difference to importers and marketers. But they say they are owed $2 billion in arrears and have shut fuel depots until the balance is paid.

The government maintains the money has been paid and the importers are holding the country to ransom by demanding losses from the slump in the naira currency caused by the global drop in oil prices.

Oh, it is finished!!! Ancelotti dumps Real Madrid

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that he intends to take a year out of the game for health reasons.

The Italian is expected to part company with Los Blancos in the coming days, after enduring a disappointing end to the 2014-15 season, with the Spanish side being surprisingly knocked out of the Champions League semi-finals by Juventus before finishing second to Barcelona in La Liga.

“I can assure you that I have not lacked opportunities, from Italy, England and Germany,” the 55-year-old told Il Giornale. “And I will not lack [offers] between now and next year.

“But I said it in the press conference and I repeat: I will stop for a year, also because I have a very serious reason for stopping.

“I have to have an operation because of my cervical stenosis. For some time, it has been affecting my hands and if I lose any more time, it could pass into legs, so I have an appointment for surgery.

“And, frankly, I do not know how long I have to be physically stopped, in terms of the post-operative phase and the subsequent rehabilitation.

“It will be a pleasure to host [Galliani] for dinner, but I cannot change my programme.

“I will have the operation in Vancouver, Canada, where I have already got a house with my wife.

“I will rest, between Madrid and Canada. Because the two years at Real have been very tough, believe me.

“Nobody can imagine how much training Real takes out of you, in terms of physical and nervous energy.

“Then, I will return home for another event: in a month, my grandson will be born. That’s something that I cannot and do not want to miss.”

GEJ 2019? Story for the gods

By Ochereome Nnanna |

IN exactly four days, the days of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will be over. You must, like me, have wondered what this young man will be doing with his life at 58.
I call him “young man” in view of the age bracket of those who will be his fellow former presidents. Some of them (like Shehu Shagari, Yakubu Gowon and Olusegun Obasanjo) are old enough to be his fathers. Should he remain active in politics, for instance?

IN exactly four days, the days of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will be over. You must, like me, have wondered what this young man will be doing with his life at 58.

I call him “young man” in view of the age bracket of those who will be his fellow former presidents. Some of them (like Shehu Shagari, Yakubu Gowon and Olusegun Obasanjo) are old enough to be his fathers. Should he remain active in politics, for instance?

Looking at his predecessors, their involvement can be classified as “active”, “passive” and “neutral”. Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari (who is making a come-back to power) are active political volcanoes. They identify with political parties and openly strive to influence power play. Shagari and Ibrahim Babangida are passive. They have strong political interests and opinions but stay away from direct involvement. Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar appear totally neutral. You hardly hear them take interest in partisan activities, and when they offer their views or advice, it is usually mediatory and fatherly. Please, don’t remind me that Ernest Shonekan is one of them. I am usually reluctant to include him in this list because he is a Judas who volunteered himself to be used to scuttle the mandate Nigerians freely gave to his kinsman, Chief Moshood Abiola, and was promptly ignominiously booted out barely after 81 days.

I have been hearing some rustlings here and there, that GEJ will attempt to remain as the leader of the defeated People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He, himself, has said a couple of times that he would devote his energies to see that the party bounces back. I have also even heard that he might run for president again in 2019. I hope he still has advisers. Not “Special Advisers” – mercenaries paid with government funds who, after collecting the money, sabotaged him to ensure he was not re-elected. I am talking about those who truly love him and would want him to retain some of his residual glory and maintain the new status of esteem in the world occasioned by his civilised handling of his electoral loss to Buhari.

If I were in a position to whisper into the ears of our departing president, I would not ask him to maintain absolute neutrality in politics. Once a person has tasted the soup of partisan politics; once a person has occupied a powerful office through the vehicle of partisan politics, it is nearly impossible to come out and become neutral. It is like a woman who spent many years as a professional prostitute and got married. Her eyes will still rove, even if involuntarily. But, even a repented prostitute, like a retired president, can curb his or her impulses. That is what confers respectability.

Look at Shagari, my most favourite ex-president. He is supportive of the PDP. His children have occupied various offices on the party’s platform. But Shagari will never tarnish his halo with the kind of greedy attitude to politics and power which Obasanjo exhibits even after three terms as head of state and the longest serving. He is “the goat seller who refuses to release the rope”. He is already angling to put the rope around the neck of Buhari, and Arewa politicians are telling him to gerrout.

Jonathan must not follow the footsteps of his political mentor, Obasanjo. If he tries it, he will be disgraced. Obasanjo has been disgraced many times over. He was shot in the buttocks during the civil war. He has been arraigned for coup plotting, jailed and his rank taken from him. His attempt to give himself a third term was ruthlessly thwarted. His ambition to install himself as the life leader of the PDP was suavely nixed, and he was subsequently forced out as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Party.

Far worse has happened to him on his home front, where his wives and children have dragged his name in the mud. His own Transparency International (TI) has dubbed his government the most corrupt of all. But Obasanjo is still the longest serving ruler of Nigeria, and it does not appear possible that anyone will break that record. Jonathan is definitely not Obasanjo. Not by any long shot. Jonathan has sold the goat. He must let go of the rope, or he will meet his political waterloo.

A general who leads his army to a crushing defeat must relinquish his command. When General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu lost the civil war he had to leave the country, not just for his own safety. The imperative of letting go holds true for GEJ just as it does for the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, a suspected mole of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Jonathan can assist in a passive way, in the effort to revitalise the PDP, but he cannot lead the effort. What will he bring now that he did not have when he occupied a position touted as the most powerful in the world?
When I say GEJ is no Obasanjo, it shows in many ways. For instance, Obasanjo was farsighted in building up his power based within the PDP. He started early and by the time electioneering came, he had an easy ride. Jonathan in his five years as president, made very little attempt to build his power base in his party. He was unable to produce any governor, National Assembly member or loyalists in the party. It was the governors and National Assembly members that Obasanjo implanted that he used to destroy PDP and help stop GEJ’s re-election. OBJ deployed his technocrats to fight him in the media and civil society. Where are GEJ’s people? Even the Ijaw militants he “empowered” (including pardoned felon Diepreye Alamieyeseigha) are crawling over to the winners.
Jonathan can no longer count on the South East and South-South if he chooses to be foolhardy and plunge into a return bid in 2019. The support they packaged for him was meant to last from 2011 to 2019, but due to his poor political capacity, he lost grip after only four years. It has expired for GEJ. New people must come in and recharge the South East/South-South platform into a formidable political force, and GEJ can only be a glorified figurehead in it.
Besides (and most importantly) the presidential impetus has swung away from the South-South. It has gone northwards. In 2019, any political party that wants to win election must field a presidential candidate from the North. If PDP wants to bounce back, it must look northwards. In fact, the only chance of PDP ever bouncing back is to reclaim as many of its adherents from the North as possible, as the Buhari hoopla begins to wear off.

When the impetus swings to any region it does not pay to try and fight against it. In 1999 it was in the South West, and most registered political party looked for their candidates from there. In 2011, an attempt by Buhari to fight against South-South’s GEJ resulted in his defeat by 10 million votes. In 2019, any party going against the North will be on its own. And after that, nobody can stop the swing of impetus to the South East.
Jonathan should properly brand himself along his democracy credentials and carry out assignments to promote peace in Nigeria, Africa and the world at large. But GEJ for president in 2019? Forget it! That party is over. Over, you hear?

A Man's love...By Ekemezie Anita the Love Doctor

Nothing on this planet can be compared to a woman's love,it is kind, compassionate, patient, nurturing, refreshing, unconditional and very sacrificial.if you are her man, she would go through the most uphill task for you,no matter how you have acted out,she would talk to you, until she exhaust all the words, encourage you when you are at your nadir and hopeless, she would clean you up when you are unkempt, defend you even when is not certain of your innocence, and no matter what you do,no matter how many times.her friends cast and make snarky remarks about you.no matter how many times you walk out of the relationship, she would continue to give you her very best, and perserve never relenting, keep trying to win over your heart even when you demur, and act like her efforts to convince you that she is the one are puny, and not good enough
That is a woman's love,it stands the test of time, logic and all circumstances, and this  is exactly how a woman expects a man to love her in return.Ask any female what kind of love she wants from a man,and it will sound like this''i want him to be smart, frisky, romantic, sensitive, gentle and to cap it all supportive,A man vulnerable enough to cry when he is hurting, who loves children ......''and so on,it is endless.Well,i am here to tell ladies that expecting that kind of perfect love from a man is highly unrealistic, that's right i said it.It is not feasible, because a man's love is not like a woman's love, don"t get confused am not saying a man isn"t capable of loving am just saying that a man's love is different,it is much more simple, direct, and probably quite elusive too.I tell you,if you can simply recognise how exactly a man loves you might find that the man standing in front of you, that very admirer you have been ignoring is indeed giving u his all.now, this begs the big question"how do you know when a man loves you''very simple,he would do this three things;PROFESS,PROVIDE ,AND PROTECT.
PROFESS,if your man loves you he is willing to tell the world.look here,'this is my woman,my girl,my world' in other words, you will have a title,an official one that extends beyond 'This is my friend' something more intimate, that protrays the depth of your relationship, that is because a man who holds you special and has sincere feelings for you will give you a title that clearly defines his relationship with you. This title is like a proclammation o0f his interest,a way of laying claims to you.He is putting it to notice, any man who hears it will recognize and acknowledge that you are taken. If he introduces you as his friend or by name have no doubt, that is all you are.Ladies all realise this in their hearts of hearts. But the minute he assigns a title, the moment he publicly lay claims to you,to all the people he holds dear, that is the minute you know your man is making a statement.A profession is paramount, you will know a man is serious about you, once he claims you.
PROVIDE,once a man claims you,and it is reciprocated he is going to start bringing home that money,to make sure that you have all you need, that is their role-their purpose, the society has stipulated that the primary function of a man is  to make sure his family is set whether dead or alive. That is the very core of manhood,to be the provider.if a man is in the position of being questioned about whether he is able to provide financially and otherwise for the ones he loves,it will greatly bruise his ego.The more a man can provide for his woman and kids the bigger and more efficient he feels.sounds quite simple, but that is the reality,a man who truly loves you would never make you ask for money for necessities, because every bit of appreciation he gets for providing in any way, boosts his ego as a man.
PROTECT-when a man truly loves you, anyone who says, does, suggests or even thinks about doing something offensive to you stands the risk of being seriously hurt.Your man will destroy anything and everything inhis path to make sure, that whoever disrespects you pays for it.that is his nature,it is the same for every male specie,no one is allowed to disrespect their familywithout them putting up a fight.that is how they have been wired.it is innate, there is no real man who will not protect what is his.protection is one of the key thinga a woman wants in her man, because it is what girls have been raised to expect, that they can count on the most important man in their lives to go to battle for them, and keep them safe from all harm,no matter the cost.Protection is not just about being ferocious,a man who truly cares about you can and will protect you in other ways,be it advice,or stepping up to perform a task,he thinks is totally unsafe for you.
In all, ladies have to stop heaping their own definition of love on men,and recognize that men love differently. As i earlier said,a man's love fits only into three categories, the three PS-profess,provide and protect. If you have got a man who has a pass in all three, then trust me he is probably the one.

65-Year-Old German Mom of 13 Expecting Again — This Time Quadruplets

A 65-year-old German woman with 13 children is pregnant again. And this time she's expecting quadruplets, for a total of 17.
Annegret Raunigk, an elementary school teacher from Spandau, a western district of Berlin, made the news 10 years ago when she gave birth at age 55 to her 13th child, a daughter, Lelia. That was considered something akin to a miracle, since Raunigk became pregnant naturally and without any fertility treatments.
Her first 12 children — by five men — are ages 22 to 44 (11 of them, in fact, were born in the former East Germany), the Berliner Morgenpost and Bild newspapers reported. Lelia turns just 10 on June 1, and she wanted a sibling closer to her own age, according to the magazine and radio company RTL, which is documenting Raunigk's pregnancy on its current affairs show "Extra."
So Raunigk sought fertility treatments this time.
"So what if I'm 65?" Raunigk told RTL. "Why must one always hew to the obvious clichés? I find that quite exhausting."
But Dr. Holger Stepan, head of obstetrics at the University Hospital of Leipzig, called the pregnancy "an absolute disaster." He told Berliner Morgenpost that it wasn't just Raunigk who's at risk — so are her four fetuses.
Pregnancy so late in life opens the woman to increased susceptibility to high blood pressure, diabetes and other "life-threatening conditions," he said.
And if the babies do survive, they will almost certainly be premature, said Stepan, who said they could be at risk for cerebral hemorrhages, infections and lung damage.
But so far, doctors said, the pregnancy is proceeding without major complications, with delivery expected in the summer.
"I have enough experience with this," Raunigk told RTL, according to Berliner Morgenpost. "To me, this is nothing new."

My aim was to interact with my fans and people on the street which is giving birth to a new foundation that will help take people out of the street as my own little way of giving back to the streets of Lagos that was once a home  for me. During the cause of my interaction with my friends on the streets yesterday, I was able to discover some raw talents who are ready to work if the opportunity comes their way. The Florida Department of Health said Schneider voluntarily relinquished his license to practice in the state.
